Changing Your Templates

Templates

The template editors are where you really make your directory your directory ....

You are able to create a template for every single page of output generated by the system: every category, statistic, everything. Failing to create all of these template, hyperseek will simply use the "default" template throughout your directory.

A special note about category page templates ... hyperseek will recursively attempt to find a template, allowing you to define new templates to the level you want. For example, if the visitor is in the Internet:Webmasters:Software:Perl Category, hyperseek will first try and use the template for that category. If it doesn't exist, it'll try the "Internet:Webmasters:Software" template. If that's not there, it'll try "Internet:Webmasters". The last one it'll try, would be "Internet". If none of them exist, hyperseek will use your default template...

Templates in hyperseek rely on PLUGINS to insert the various parts of the search engine into your pages. A template is the entire HTML code for the page, as you'd like it drawn, with the addition of special hyperseek tags, called "PLUGINS" inserted into the pages, where you want things like the search box, menu bar, etc placed.

The templates for User Accounts need some special attention, in that you must create all 4 templates. When the account user logs into the account system to manage their links, they are given the option of using a full screen or framed interface (3 frames: Top, left, and right).
  • The "Full Page" template needs to be designed for those users selecting the full page option. In this template, you'll want to use all of the "main" plugins: <-- PLUGIN:TITLE -->, <-- PLUGIN:BODY --> and <-- PLUGIN:MENU --> so that all of the options will be available to them.

  • The Top Frame template only really needs <-- PLUGIN:TITLE -->

  • The Menu Frame template only really needs <-- PLUGIN:MENU -->

  • The Main Frame template only really needs <-- PLUGIN:BODY -->

Of course, each of these "frame" templates can have any other text or links in them, but only it's designated PLUGIN.

For more information on creating page templates and using the plugins to get the look and feel that you want, please visit the template editor page and the PLUGINS page.

Internal/Non Page Templates
Listing Templates allow you to define how the listings look within the page template.

The featuresite template is for defining how featured sites look, and is defined the same way as the listing template

The Category Template is used to define how the categories on the main directory page are drawn.
