| Define Categories |
The define categories main window feels and acts much like the directory
itself, allowing you to browse through your setup, adding, deleting and
editing all the way through it.
Each category contains a number of options or actions....
- Teaser
If you are looking at a first level subcategory (one right below
the main category), there'll be a check box in this space, allowing you to designate
any of the subcategories a "teaser", making it show up on the search engine home page.
- Sort Order
Numerically decide the display order of these subcategories
- Edit will bring up a window, like the one shown below, where you may change the
settings for the category
- Delete
Delete the category
To create a category or subcategory under the current category, simply type
it's name into the box, and press the "Create Category" button. This will
open up the window you see below (which is also the same window you'd see
if you were to edit a category)...
At the bottom of the form, you'll notice a drop down list containing
Importable Category Trees. Selecting a tree from the list will incorporate
the selected set of categories into the current level, in their entirety.
The program will look into the directory: data/hyperseek/global/ for any text
file, and will list them here for your selection. The text files can have any
name you choose, but must be properly formatted.
The file must be plain text, uploaded to your server in ASCII mode
A properly formatted file looks something like this:
US
US:Alabama
US:Alabama:Birmingham
US:Alabama:Mobile
US:Alabama:Montgomery
US:Alabama:Troy
US:Alaska
US:Alaska:Anchorage
US:Alaska:Juneau
US:Arizona
US:Arizona:Apache Junction
US:Arizona:Peoria
US:Arizona:Phoenix
US:Arizona:Scottsdale
US:Arizona:Sedona
US:Arizona:Tempe
US:Arizona:Tolleson
US:Arizona:Tucson
US:Arizona:Yuma
Notice that each "set" of sub levels is preceeded by the parent level.
For example, you couldn't list "US:Alabama" unless you'd first listed "US".
Similarly, you can't have "US:Arizona:Peoria" until you first define "US:Arizona".

The Edit Category window lets you define the details for each category:
- Related Categories
Select any categories you'd like to define as related
to the current category. If you select the Option
to "Show Related Categories", these will show when
your visitor browses to this category. Note, these
related categories will appear in "Yahoo" format: Italicized
with an "@" at the end.
- META Title
One of the PLUGINs you can use in your templates, is
<!-- PLUGIN:META -->, if you have that plugin in
your templates, then hyperseek will use the value you
enter here as the <TITLE> tag for the category
when it draws the page, and builds the static pages.
- META Description
One of the PLUGINs you can use in your templates, is
<!-- PLUGIN:META -->, if you have that plugin in
your templates, then hyperseek will use the value you
enter here as the <META NAME="keywords"> tag for the category
when it draws the page, and builds the static pages.
- META Keywords
One of the PLUGINs you can use in your templates, is
<!-- PLUGIN:META -->, if you have that plugin in
your templates, then hyperseek will use the value you
enter here as the <META NAME="description"> tag for the category
when it draws the page, and builds the static pages.
- Category Description
Not to be confused with the META Description ... this description
will be shown with your categories in the category pages, under
the category name. The description will only be shown if you
have turned the option "Show Category Descriptions" turned "on"
in the Main Options.
The reason these are 2 separate entries, is that you most likely
will want a different description for your users to see, than you
would like in the META tags.....search engines tend to see things
differently than users do.
