The Date Plugins
Putting the current date on the page lends an air of freshness to your site. It's so eay to do, why not add it? Your portal offers three
ways to add the current date:
To add the long date to your page, simply insert this code where you want the date to appear:
<!-- PLUGIN:Long_Date -->
To add the short date, use this code:
<!-- PLUGIN:Short_Date -->
And for the US date version, use this code:
<!-- PLUGIN:US_Date -->
The Referer Plugin
On the surface, this plugin seems somewhat oddly named in that it doesn't really show a referer, like Yahoo or AltaVista. What it is supposed to do is
create a link to a page that reports the "last 10 searches run by your visitors." What it really appears to do is to create a link to the very last
search that the same visitor who is clicking the link ran. So if you place this link on your default or search results template, you'll give people a
way to backtrack through their last 10 searches one at a time.
Code for the Referer Plugin:
<a href="<!-- PLUGIN:REFERER -->">Back</a>
The Powersearch Plugin
The Totallinks Plugin
How it looks:
There are 178 incredibly helpful links in the PortalHelp directory.
Code for the Totallinks Plugin:
<!-- PLUGIN:TOTALLINKS -->
If you're proud of the number of links you've added to your portal, or if you are a numbers geek, or if you just want to
give folks a fast way to see if you've added anything new, you'll love this plugin. The plugin itself only draws the number
of links. You'll need to add the words around it. I have a feeling that the Totallinks plugin is something like placing a
counter on your page. Some folks love it and want one, some don't. It's a matter of personal taste. Have fun!
The Headline Plugin
The Headline Plugin is the way you place the information you've entered into your What's New system onto your page.
(Be sure to read the What's New tutorial to find out what you can do with this great feature.)
The uses of this plugin are limited only by your imagination. You can use it for actual news items; for news about your portal; to feature certain sites; or
to recommend books, games, or software to your visitors. I'm sure some of you will come up with even better uses for the plugin. Please let me know! I'll
include your unique use of it along with a link back to your portal in our Test Bed archives.
